Emergency Medicine
Last month I had a rotation on emergency medicine. I have to say, it was a lot of fun.
If you like variety, set hours and don’t mind working nights now and then, it’s a great career. I saw everything from heart attacks to someone getting their thumb bit off (by another person) to popping someone’s jaw back into place. It was great!
The drawbacks are that you can’t really set up your own practice if you’re into that sort of thing. You also do a good amount of secretary type of work, calling different people to have them come and see the patient, calling consults, etc. But, overall it was a lot of fun.
