Medical School Personal Statements – Professional Editing

Mike’s Editing for Medical School Personal Statements

When it comes to medical school personal statements, it always helps to have an extra pair of eyes look it over. In my opinion, the best person to do this is someone who has been on an admissions committee.

Put my experience as a UCLA admissions committee member to work for you!

As a member of the admissions committee at UCLA, I had the chance to look through many medical school personal statements. I know what works and what doesn’t. I’ve also had several years of experience as a writing tutor, so I understand what it takes to make a great essay.

Students who have used my editing services have been accepted to the following schools:

Harvard Medical School

UCLA Medical School

UCSF Medical School

Brown University

University of Texas Health Sciences Center- San Antonio

And Others!

When do you need professional personal statement editing and when can you go it alone? I recommend professional editing of medical school personal statements under the following conditions:

  • If you are explaining hardships (to help explain poor performance in certain areas)
  • If you feel you are a weak writer
  • If you can’t find someone who is a good writer to look at your essay
  • If English is not your first language

If none of these fit you, you’re probably fine with following the advice on my page about medical school essays and having someone look it over who won’t charge you. You can find ideas on good people to ask in my eBook.

Now, what I just said is absolutely true for medical school personal statements. The main purpose is to tell your story and you don’t necessarily need someone who specializes in medical school admissions to help you do that.

On the other hand, I would recommend professional editing of your AMCAS application to everyone!

Why do I say this? You’ll understand this more in my eBook, but suffice it to say that what you did and how you explain it on your AMCAS have a huge effect on whether you are accepted or even invited to interview. Yes, that’s right. An even bigger effect than your medical school personal statements.

Why get professional help here? For this one, it’s not just anyone who can tell you what looks good on your application. You do, in fact, need someone who has seen a lot of applications. Only these people can tell you if your activities and descriptions of those activities look impressive compared to other applicants.

I’ve joined the MedSchoolCoach Team!

Along with personal statement and AMCAS editing, through MedSchoolCoach you can get:

  • General advising. This is customized counseling for your situation. You have questions and we have answers! We’ll help you understand what it takes to get into medical school and help you do it.
  • Interview preparation. As I explain on my page on interviews, they can decide whether you get accepted or not. We also can help you prepare for MMIs.
  • Advice specific for non-traditional applicants. It can be daunting to know how to explain your situation on your application. We can help with that!
  • BS/MD advising. There is a way to get accepted to medical school right out of high school! That’s through a BS/MD program. A few schools on my list of schools page have these programs. We can help you get
    into these coveted programs.
  • Reapplicant Services. If you applied to medical school and did not get accepted, we can help you make it different this time around.
  • Complete Packages. These include advising, interview preparation, help with your application and personal statement, a customized list of schools, and help with
secondary applications. The gold package also comes with guaranteed acceptance to medical school! This is the only offer of its kind and one of the reasons I decided to join up with MedSchoolCoach. No one else stands by their work like this!

Another reason I joined up with MedSchoolCoach is that their rates are very reasonable, even compared to companies with less specialized experience. Remember, although consulting does cost money, it costs less than losing a year and having to apply all over again!

Also keep in mind that about 60% of applicants to medical school are not accepted. Don’t let that be you!

Plus, you can use the code “california” to bring the price down an additional 15%! Click here to visit MedSchoolCoach!
